Orphans & Scraps Part 4 - Finished

I've finished Part 4 of Orphans & Scraps, a sew-along by Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts.

Weekly Update

Between working on Batik Cascade all weekend and waking up Monday with a nasty stomach bug, I didn't meet all of my goals for this week. I didn't get any work done on Fish City, Tech Support, or Around the Town. On the plus side, I didn't have to frog anything this week.

Quilting:

Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts posted Part 4 of her sew-along, Orphans & Scraps.  On this one she gave us a choice between a complicated block and a simpler block; I chose the simple one.

I got Batik Cascade (Batik Go-Round) by Karen Combs layered and basted, but I didn't quite finish rolling the edges.

Blackwork:

I'm still working on the same square on the Blackwork Chessboard by Anne MacGregor.

Swedish Weaving:

I made some more progress on the Feathers To and Fro afghan from Learn to Make Monk’s Cloth Afghans by Marilyn T. Magly.

Crochet:

I did some more crocheting on the 3rd panel of the Morning Glory afghan designed by Michele Maks.

Knitting:

I finished the embroidery on the 1st end panel of the Octopus Garden Blanket by Georgia Vincent and wove in all the ends.

Weekly Update

Quilting:

I finally got some real work done on Churn Dash, the January installment of the Block of the Month series by Deanne Eisenman of Snuggles Quilts.

I did some more work on Around the Town by Dawna Baker.

I finished piecing the backing for Batik Cascade (Batik Go-Round) by Karen Combs.

Blackwork:

I'm still working on the same square on the Blackwork Chessboard by Anne MacGregor.

Cross Stitch:

I did some more work on Fish City which is adapted from artwork by Stewart Moskowitz.

Swedish Weaving:

I made a little progress on the Feathers To and Fro afghan from Learn to Make Monk’s Cloth Afghans by Marilyn T. Magly... eventually. I think I've done more frogging this month than I normally do in a year. When I sat down with this I discovered that I had made a mistake in the last row I had been working on, so I had to rip it out and redo it.

Crochet:

The Morning Glory afghan designed by Michele Maks is another one that I had to frog this week. I finished the grey section of the third panel, did the first 4 rows of the next green section, then discovered that I was on the wrong side of the fabric. I thought I had turned when the directions said "do not turn", so I frogged the green section and tried again. After 3 rows I realized that I was still on the wrong side, so I took a close look at my work and discovered that I had miscounted the rows in the grey section. So, I frogged the green section again, did another grey row, then started the green again. This time I think I've got it right.

Knitting:

I did some more embroidery on the 1st end panel of the Octopus Garden Blanket by Georgia Vincent.

Finishing:

Finally, I got the 2nd binding strip completely sewn onto Tech Support, a design by Linda Connors of Calico Crossroads®, adapted from the artwork of Kathleen Kelly of Kats by Kelly™, and I trimmed the excess backing & batting.

I did some more work on Around the Town by Dawna Baker.

Blackwork:

I'm still working on the same square on the Blackwork Chessboard by Anne MacGregor.

Weekly Update

Quilting:

Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts has posted Part 1 of her latest sew-along, Orphans & Scraps. I've been wanting to do a quilt in purple and aqua, and I have enough scraps in those colors left over from Batik Cascade, so that's what I'll be using for this project. Between being sick and crazy busy this week I'm already behind on this one. Hopefully I can catch up this weekend.

Deanne Eisenman of Snuggles Quilts has posted the January installment of her Block of the Month series, Churn Dash.  I haven't gotten farther than choosing the fabrics for this one.

I did some more work on Around the Town by Dawna Baker.

I pressed the seams on the backing for Batik Cascade (Batik Go-Round) by Karen Combs and trimmed the excess off the last piece.

Then I cut and marked the last 2 pieces which will be sewn together and then sewn along the edge of the backing.

Blackwork:

I finished the bit of border I was doing on the Blackwork Chessboard by Anne MacGregor and then started a new square.

Magly.

Crochet:

I made really good progress on the Morning Glory afghan designed by Michele Maks. I finished the 2nd panel, sewed it to the 1st, and did the last row of cross stitches on the 1st panel that I couldn't do before because they're right on the edge of the panel.

I also did some more crocheting on the 3rd panel.

So, it's the 2nd week of January and I'm already over halfway done with one the projects I need to finish to meet my goals for 2013.

Knitting:

I had a bit of a setback on the Octopus Garden Blanket by Georgia Vincent. I had finished knitting the 1st end panel and had started the embroidery when I noticed that I had dropped a stitch near the beginning. There was no way to fix it without leaving a huge mark, so I had to frog the whole thing and start over. I ended up 3 rows shy of finishing the knitting.

Finishing:

Finally, I finished sewing the first binding strip to the back of Tech Support, a design by Linda Connors of Calico Crossroads®, adapted from the artwork of Kathleen Kelly of Kats by Kelly™.

Weekly Update

Quilting:

I did some more work on Around the Town by Dawna Baker.

I finished sewing another piece onto the backing for Batik Cascade (Batik Go-Round) by Karen Combs.

I need to press the seams, trim part of the lightest piece off, and then sew a couple of strips along the edge to make it the right size.

Blackwork:

I finished that square on the Blackwork Chessboard by Anne MacGregor and then did a blank square and some of the border.

You'll notice that I didn't do the running stitches in the blank square. I've decided that when I finish this as a mini-quilt, I'll do functional quilting stitches with the pearl cotton rather than decorative running stitches.

Magly.

Crochet:

I finished the embroidery on the 2nd panel of the Morning Glory afghan designed by Michele Maks.

I also finished the squares on the 3rd panel, sewed them together, and made a good start on the "trellis" portion of the panel.

Knitting:

I finished the embroidery on the 2nd side panel of the Octopus Garden Blanket by Georgia Vincent and wove in all the ends. Then I started knitting the 1st end panel.

Finishing:

I sewed the first binding strip onto Tech Support, a design by Linda Connors of Calico Crossroads®, adapted from the artwork of Kathleen Kelly of Kats by Kelly™.

Christmas:

Finally, here's what I got done on the Tiny Stocking ornament designed by Jorja Hernandez before I put it away.
