New Designs - Storm At Sea & Tempest

I did these back in April. I don't know why it's taken me so long to post them.

First, I did a cross stitch interpretation of the traditional Storm At Sea quilt pattern with the usual stormy blues and greys.

Then I started playing with the colors.

New Design - Web

Web - computer simulation

I'm not sure what type of embroidery to call this. I've looked everywhere and can't find anything that looks like it. It's counted, so it's not crewelwork. It's too complex to be blackwork. It's too open to be needlepoint, plus I plan to stitch it on evenweave fabric, not canvas. If anyone's seen anything that resembles this, please let me know.

All the stitches are straight stitches. Any curves you think you may see are an optical illusion. It looks like it will be interesting to stitch.

New Design - Flowing Water

If you stare at this one for a while, the blue lines will start to resemble flowing water. And you may get a headache. Consider yourself forewarned.

Finished Stitching - Checkerboard Dots

I finally finished stitching Checkerboard Dots this morning!  :-D

Checkerboard Dots - Done!

It took me 3 months. Now I just need to wash, iron, and frame it.  ;-)

Weekly Update - Checkerboard Dots

I’m almost done with Checkerboard Dots. I just have 2 ½ more rows of squares to do.

I’m at that point where the end is in sight and I just want to get. the. damn. thing. done. I plan to spend tonight stitching and keep stitching until either I finish or I start falling asleep.

Weekly Update - Checkerboard Dots

I made good progress again this week. As always, the picture will be larger if opened in a separate tab or window, and comments are appreciated.

New Design - Hyper Dots

Whew! What a crazy day! Everything was happening at once, plus I got a design idea this morning and felt the need to implement it right away. Btw, if anyone has any good ideas for something to jot notes down on in the shower I’d love to hear them. ;-)

Anyway, I wondered what would happen if I inverted Checkerboard Dots in on itself. Here’s the result.  As always, the image will be larger if opened in a new tab or window.

I swear that all the lines in the checkerboard are straight, and there’s no actual movement – this image isn’t animated! ;-)

Weekly Update - Checkerboard Dots

Well, I said I’d post an update every Wednesday, but I didn’t say what time on Wednesday. ;-)

I’ve made good progress on Checkerboard Dots. I’ve got another row of squares done.

I’ve got a couple of new designs done and a third almost done. Hopefully I can get those posted in the next few days.

New Design - Checkerboard Dots

I actually designed this on 2/22/2011 and started stitching it on 2/23/2011. This is my very first cross stitch design.

Checkerboard Dots -- computer simulation

I was inspired to do this by an optical illusion that I saw online. All the lines in the checkerboard are actually straight – it’s the placement of the dots that creates the illusion of curved lines and the 3D effect.
