Weekly Update

My arthritis was still acting up this past week, so I only worked on cross stitch projects since they're easy on my hands.

I did some more work on the Celtic Jewel Bookmark from the Textile Heritage Collection.

I also worked on The Dolphins' Domain designed by James Himsworth.

Finally, I pulled out yet another UFO, Serenity by Joan Elliott.

Here's what I had already done:

And here's this week's progress:

Weekly Update

Crochet:

I finished the Moonflowers scrap afghan by Sharon Volkman.

I've still got a big box of acrylic yarn left, BUT I've been working on my goal to use it up for a year now and I'm sick of it, and my hand hurts from crocheting too much. So, I'm putting the acrylic yarn away. I'll pull it out again someday and do another scrap afghan (or two) and finally use the stuff up, but not right now.

Knitting:

I did some more work on sewing Oscar to the Octopus Garden Blanket by Georgia Vincent.  This one's getting put away for a while too.

Blackwork:

I did some more work on Da Capo by Elizabeth Almond.

Christmas:

I finished stitching the Tiny Stockings ornament with the poinsettias designed by Jorja Hernandez.

Quilting:

I finished the coaster I've been working on.

Cross Stitch:

Finally, I pulled out a couple of UFOs this week.

The first one is the Celtic Jewel Bookmark from the Textile Heritage Collection.  I couldn't find a designer for it.

Here's what I had already done on it:

And here's what I did this week:

The other UFO is The Dolphins' Domain designed by James Himsworth.

Hiatus

I've got a nasty cold and just don't feel up to dealing with the blog this week.  I'll be back next week.

Weekly Update

Crochet:

I got 9 ¾ out of 11 rows done on the Moonflowers scrap afghan by Sharon Volkman before my arthritis made me stop. The good news is that I got almost all of the ends woven in.

Blackwork:

I pulled out Da Capo by Elizabeth Almond again and got some more work done on it.

Christmas:

December's here and it's time to work on a Christmas project. I'm doing the Tiny Stockings ornaments designed by Jorja Hernandez again. I finished stitching the stocking with two birds that I had started last year and started on one with poinsettias.

Weekly Update

Once again, the only thing I worked on this week was the Moonflowers scrap afghan by Sharon Volkman. I've done 7 ¾ out of 11 rows.

Weekly Update

This week the only thing I worked on was the Moonflowers scrap afghan by Sharon Volkman. Despite being ill, I managed to get about halfway done with it.  Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be making much of dent in my stash, so it looks like I'll have to do at least one more scrap afghan after this one.

Weekly Update

Crochet:

For my next project in my goal to use up all of my acrylic yarn I've chosen the Moonflowers scrap afghan by Sharon Volkman. I couldn't find a good online image for it, but you can pretty much see what it's going to look like: 11 rows of these motifs with a green border that has scallops that look similar to the petals on the moonflowers.

It's join as you go, which I'm loving, but keeping up with weaving in all the loose ends is going to be a challenge.

Knitting:

I did some more work on sewing Oscar to the Octopus Garden Blanket by Georgia Vincent.

Cross Stitch:

Finally, I did a bit more work on the Rose Cross by Irene O. Thomas.

Weekly Update

Crochet:

I finished the Ohio Star pillow designed by Linda/Shirley (?) Koger. I left one side open so that I can easily pull the pillow out and throw the cover in the washing machine.

Knitting:

I finally blocked the Octopus Garden Blanket by Georgia Vincent, pinned Oscar in place, and started sewing him to the blanket.

Quilting:

I pulled out the coasters again and stitched the 3rd binding strip to the back of this one and started attaching the 4th binding strip.

Cross Stitch:

I did some more stitching on Joy of Computer Work which is based on artwork by Randal Spangler and adapted to cross stitch by Michele Sayetta of Heaven and Earth Designs.

Finally, I did a bit more work on the Rose Cross by Irene O. Thomas.

Nabby's Dowry - Top Finished

Yesterday, I finished the top for Nabby's Dowry, a sew-along by Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts. Yay!

The tone-on-tone fabric on the left will be the binding, and the butterfly fabric on the right will be the backing. I've sent Pam details on my plans for the quilting to be included in the "Airing of the Quilts" which will take place sometime after Dec. 1st, so be sure to check her blog for that and to see all the wonderful quilts that other participants have made.

Weekly Update

Crochet:

I finally finished the Purple Passion Throw designed by Vicki Marshall.

Since that's done, it's time to take stock of where I am with my goal to use up all of my acrylic worsted weight yarn.

Here's my current stash:

I still need to block the Octopus Garden Blanket by Georgia Vincent, which I can't do until I've finished Nabby's Dowry since I only have the one ironing/blocking board, and applique the octopi onto the blanket. Since I'll only need a bit of the purple and pink yarns to finish this project, there will be leftovers to add to the stash.

Then there's this tangle:

That's destined to be the Granny's Daughter afghan designed by Nancy Fuller (who I can't find a website for). The afghan consists of over 800 one-round granny squares crocheted together with a main color. I've been throwing all of my machine-washable worsted weight scraps that are too small for anything else into this box and occasionally crocheting motifs. Someday, I'll buy a machine-washable yarn (but not acrylic!) for the main color and crochet the motifs together. To meet my goal, I plan to crochet all of the acrylic scraps into motifs and weave in the ends.

I'll need to crochet at least one scrap afghan to get rid of those boxes of yarn, but first I've got another project. The washing machine ripped a hole in the pillow that I use for a backrest, so I need to make a new one. This time, instead of stuffing a crocheted pillow with fiberfill (which was difficult to wash) I'm going to crochet a removable cover for a pillow form. Rather than buy new yarn, I'll use up some of my acrylic stash.

So, this week I started crocheting the pillow that goes with the Ohio Star afghan. The identity of the designer is a bit of a puzzle: my book says that it was designed by Linda Koger, but various online sources say that it was designed by Shirley Koger. I can't find a website for either (or maybe it's the same?) lady.

Quilting:

I finished the center of Nabby's Dowry, a sew-along by Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts.  It just needs borders to be a finished top.

Cross Stitch:

Finally, I did a little bit of work on the Rose Cross by Irene O. Thomas.

I took me a couple of tries to get the sashing to line up on the big piece, but I've got the hang of it now.

Crochet:

I crocheted 2 more tulips for the Purple Passion Throw designed by Vicki Marshall and started a third.

I made quite a bit of progress on Nabby's Dowry, a sew-along by Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts.  I'm surprised by how quickly this is coming together.

On the Purple Passion Throw designed by Vicki Marshall, I sewed the 4th row to the rest of the afghan and crocheted another tulip.

Weekly Update

Quilting:

I cut out the sashing for Nabby's Dowry, a sew-along by Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts.  I really love Pam's setting, so I've laid the blocks out exactly like hers.

It looks like the strips aren't long enough in places, but that's just due to the seam allowances. All the pieces will fit once they've been sewn together.

Crochet:

I finished the 4th and penultimate row of the Purple Passion Throw designed by Vicki Marshall.

Finally, I did some more work on the Rose Cross by Irene O. Thomas.
